What is it about?
Evidence generated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is presented for the control of corrosion by aerobic bacteria P. fragi K on mild steel in LB medium. The effect by the bacteria was shown to be greater than flowing nitrogen through the LB solution indicating that this effect is more than just scavenging oxygen by the bacteria.

Why is it important?
This research showed that probiotic methods for controlling corrosion are possible. It also indicates that the beneficial strain of bacteria may be producing a corrosion inhibitor in addition to scavenging oxygen in the corrosive medium.
