Taking literary translators into account when talking about technology in literary translation

What is it about?

This chapter explores the dynamic between literary translators’ self-image and their attitudes towards technology by reporting data on 150 literary translators' confidence with technology, the tools they use, and their attitudes towards general and translation technology. Findings highlight a discrepancy between current research focus on AI/MT and literary translators’ use and perceptions of technology. The need for a more inclusive approach to the development of tools and for revised technology training is identified.

This is one of the first studies in the field to focus on literary translators' use of and attitudes towards (translation) technology. Literary translators' voices are also usually disregarded or not included in research on technology for literary translation.
