What is it about?
The trajectory of secularism and atheism, which began with the formation of the Latvian nation in terms of modernity, is essential. The first generation of Latvian intellectuals were looking for paradigms to develop a vision of the Latvian nation as modern, independent and equivalent to other European nations and used the model of German Enlightement because it was found in the surrounding German culture. It was a paradigm in which the development of a nation's culture was closely linked to the issue of political freedom and self-determination of the nation by placing it in a highly secular context.
