What is it about?

Adopting a pragma-rhetorical approach (Ilie 2006, 2018) situated at the interface of pragmatics and rhetoric, this article explores the interplay of rational and emotional persuasion techniques induced by strategic questioning and the extent to which they succeed in changing or strengthening the perceptions, beliefs and decision-making behaviours of the interlocutor(s) and/or the audience. Special attention is paid to rhetorical questions, hypothetical questions, leading questions, expository questions, and echo questions, which are non-standard questions used in dialogic interactions taking place in political, parliamentary, media and business communities of practice.
