Why is it important?

Nigeria has a vast resource of untapped medicinal plants with significant potential to bring the world closer to resolving the challenges of female reproductive health. This study therefore adds to the growing knowledge of plants previously unknown to have 'significant' myometrial effects.

Perspectives

Ever wondered if the vegetables you consume routinely as part of everyday meal themes might just be that very medicine that keeps you going? This study finds valuable information on a vegetable commonly used in NIgerian dishes. This vegetable was found to have direct effects on uterine contractility at remarkably low concentrations. This study has therefore added C. olitorius to the armamentarium of vegatables which holds potential keys to targeting and controlling myometrial contractions.
