What is it about?
Moniliophthora perniciosa (Tricholomataceae) is filamentous fungus that causes the witches’ broom disease of cocoa. Among the different markers useful for developing marker-assisted selection, SNPs can be easily detected in silico from EST libraries. This report was dedicated to the detection and analysis of SNPs from a library of ESTs resulting from cocoa tissues infected by M. perniciosa.

Why is it important?
Selection based on analysis of these SNPs should be useful for developing cocoa varieties resistant to this disease, which devastates cocoa production in the South of Bahia (Brazil).
