Why is it important?
Nereids have always known to produce certain amount of surfactants in the gut. In this study, it is evident that some amount of this surfactancy of Nereid gut is contributed due to the presence of biosurfactant producing microbes. The degrader presence in the gut of this tube worm helps to understand its proliferation in high pollution areas where it feeds on detritus.
