What is it about?
Synchronization takes a fundamental role to guarantee reliability in wireless communications. Moreover, OFDM is a modulation technique that became omnipresent in technologies as Wi-Fi, 4G/5G mobile systems, and even optical communications. This paper explores the use of quaternions algebra to obtain synchronization algorithms to be used in dual-polarized OFDM systems. Through analytic developments and computer simulations, we proved the performance improvements attained by this new techniques in comparison to its complex counterparts.

Why is it important?
Our findings show that quaternions algebra provides not only mathematical simplicity and a holistic approach to dual-polarized signals, but also performance improvements, fundamentals to new communications systems. Moreover, the paper presents the algorithms using complex algebra for easy practical implementation.
