What is it about?

Dry eye disease is known to have a lot of diversity in appearance with multiple forms. Understanding the biology of this situation will lead treatment choices. In vivo confocal microscopy is a diagnostic and imaging tool that gives high magnification and high-resolution pictures of all layers of the eye and ocular surface. Various structures in the cornea and their changes due to dry eye have been observed. The effect of the tear film instability, inflammation, and changed balance on the ocular epithelium, nerves, keratocytes, and dendritic cells have been studied across different studies. In addition, key traits of IVCM in patients with neuropathic pain have been noted in this study.

This form of microscopy does not require contrast or dye, does not cause destruction of tissue and has great magnification.

This type of clinical microscopy will play an increasing role in clinical care.
