Why is it important?

The findings would benefit knowledge and development of informed amputation prevention strategies.

Perspectives

Lower limb amputees, especially major amputees, are common in Nigeria. They suffer stigmatization and poor rehabilitation due to paucity of prosthetic fitting facilities. Prevention and lowering the prevalence of limb amputations should be the treatment priority in this country as a result. This can only be achieved with clear knowledge of the common causes for amputations.
