What is it about?
α-cordierite is a useful advance ceramic in several applications. The appearance of secondary phase is a challenge in synthesis cordierite through solid state reaction method. This study focus on synthesis of high purity α-phase cordierite using different non-stoichiometric cordierite composition through solid state reaction.

Why is it important?
The existing of secondary phase will impact the properties of cordierite body especially the thermal and dielectric properties. In this study, we found that, the high purity (>95 wt%) α-phase cordierite can be achieved by adjusting the ratio of magnesia and alumina in the cordierite composition formulation through solid reaction method.
