What is it about?
This papers gives a simple understanding of container ports efficiency as analysed between ports within the West African Sub-region and that of China. It could be seen from the research that ports in China although they possess all the relevant equipment needed for smooth port operations, sometimes encounter the problem of over capacity whiles ports in West Africa are always congested due to lack of capacity and other factors. The research also used the Data Envelopment Analysis to do a scientific analysis of Efficiency levels of the ports that were studied, and concluded that the Tema port in Ghana was the most efficient.

Why is it important?
This paper is important because the Maritime sector in Africa is still a growing one and it needs a lot of research into pertinent issues facing ports and shipping operations. This paper is a homegrown, location specific and timely to give a perspective on container ports efficiency within West Africa.
