What is it about?
The objective of this paper is to point out the actual requirements for the construction of single storey family houses. Theoretical assumptions, legislative and normative environment are stated for assessment of their thermal-insulation properties. The paper contains comparison and analysis of calculated EPB values of the selected representatives of single-storey family houses representing a large portion of their construction in the practice at the present time.

Why is it important?
Demand for heat intended for heating „QH,nd“ is determined using the season method on thebasis of an as sumption of uninterrupted heating (3422 K.day). The requirement of the recommended value of heat demand for heating – an energy criterion „QH,nd,r1“ depends on thevalue of shape factor „f“. Single-storey family houses achieve the recommended (normalised) value of heat demand for heating – an energy criterion – only in design with heat recuperation (6 variants only) that represents in percentage only 20.0% of the total number of analysed family houses. All other variants did not fulfil the basic requirement for the recommended (normalised) value of heat demand for heating – energy criterion. In relation to defined requirements for demonstration of EPB fulfilment, only two buildings (VARIANT I.c – 1 storey - R ,VARIANT II.c – 1 storey - R+) from the group of assessed single-storey family houses meet the recommended (normalised) value of heat demand that is necessary for fulfilment of EPB Qr1, EP = 40.70 kWh/(m2.a) that represents in percentage only 6.7% of the total number of analysed buildings.
