What is it about?
The contact problem of torsion of a shaft is considered. Using specific mathematical transformations, its approximate solution is obtained. The use of the obtained formulas is demonstrated for some specific coefficients.

Why is it important?
The research is a continuation of theoretical developments in the field of mechanics of a deformable solid. New problem statements are considered, for the solution of which the methods of generalized integral transforms and orthogonal polynomials are applied.
Perspectives
Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long standing collaborations. In continuation of the research, the problems of torsion of heterogeneous shafts with a crack or a system of cracks will be considered.
