What is it about?
The basic aim of this chapter is therefore to highlight various issues that militate against Nigerian universities in occupying top positions in various league tables regionally and globally. The chapter carried out an analysis of the performance of Nigerian universities in the foremost or the big three global university systems: QS World University Ranking System (QS), Times Higher Education World University Ranking System (THE) and Academic Ranking of World Universities System (ARWU); and based on the outcomes of rankings of Nigerian universities proffer solutions toward visibility of Nigerian universities in future rankings.

Why is it important?
The chapter concludes that, Nigerian universities and national economies stand to harness the great potentials of the global university ranking systems, if these issues are appropriately tackled in Nigerian universities. Based on these, the chapter makes the following recommendations toward the visibility of Nigerian universities in the globalized and competitive university ranking systems; these include, implementation of the benchmark of 26% of annual budgetary allocations to education by both the federal and state governments in Nigeria, provision of conducive academic environments in Nigerian universities that are attractive to foreign students/staff such as uninterrupted power supply, significant remuneration of academic staff as well as tacking the widespread insecurity/terrorism in Nigeria.
