What is it about?
Probiotic as one of the biomedical factors affecting cognition plays an important role in supporting the gut-brain axis. While several studies have reviewed the effect of probiotics in adults, reviews in children and adolescents are lacking. This review aimed to systematically evaluate the effect of probiotic interventions on cognitive function in children and adolescents.

Why is it important?
This is the first review to evaluate the effect of probiotic supplementation on cognitive function in children and adolescents. Our findings show that the favourable effect of probiotic supplementation on cognitive function in children and adolescents was observed in one study with Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG supplementation by a risk reduction of developing attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or Asperger syndrome (AS) (ie. autism).
