What is it about?
The studies quantitatively describes overstory and understory in terms of structural diversity, functional diversity, stand attributes and leaf area indices

Why is it important?
The study describes the two layers using comparable protocols, which are realtively rare considering the inherently difficulty of characterize understory in terms of leaf area and functional diversity. The study was carried out in stands left to develop naturally. This is a requisite to evalutate interaction between overstory and understory layers without human impact.
