What is it about?
After a short boom phase between the end of the 1970s and beginning of the 1980s the number of transported passengers in glacier ski areas in the summer season stagnated. Estimates using econometric models based on detailed lift data show that the number of glacier skiing demand in the summer season is significantly positively related to real private consumption and significantly negatively related to tourism prices. Furthermore, for the highest sections of the ski areas of about 3000 metres we find that natural snow depth is significantly positively related to the number of passengers transported uphill.
