What is it about?

This paper is concerned with dissecting the various strategies universities are adopting across 20 countries to respond to the coronavirus pandemic of 2019/2020. COVID-19 has required the higher education sector to rapidly change its view of digital pedagogy and digital innovation. We present key findings from our scan of some one hundred higher education providers.

Why is it important?

Understanding early responses to COVID-19 is critical for enabling an effective learning cycle for higher education providers. Given the number of unknowns in the coronavirus pandemic for universities and colleges, it is of benefit to be able to learn from those who are ahead of the curve.

Perspectives

I believe this particular paper will set a necessary benchmark for future higher education response assessments. I found a lack of publications relating to the SARS virus and higher education responses, which left us without the opportunity to learn quickly from a previous crisis. This paper offers the opportunity to examine the evidence of many universities globally and how they respond to various outbreaks, government regulations, and digital pedagogy changes.
