What is it about?

This article explores what creative freedom engineers and producers have when mixing metal music. Previous research has noted an increasing standardisation of mixing approaches, resulting in metal music sounding more and more homogenous. The findings agree that certain processing tends to be standardised due to the extreme nature of the music and the technical challenges of mixing it. However, a genre as stylistically diverse as metal requires and benefits from individual and original approaches to mixing.
