What is it about?
The manuscript is an invited editorial commenting on a new in vivo model of proximal tubulopathy type 1 Dent's disease. The main features of Dent's disease, including hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis, are recapitulated in this fly model. This model will provide insights into the relationship between the human voltage-gated 2Cl-/H+ exchange transporter ClC-5, whose loss of function causes Dent disease type 1, and calcium metabolism.
