What is it about?

Republic of Maldives is a small island nation with a population of just over 500,000 people. There are about 267 patients on chronic dialysis in Maldives. Patients have the option of hemodialysis with no option of peritoneal dialysis. For kidney transplant, patients are referred to India or Sri Lanka. There is universal health insurance and all cost of treatment and consultations are free of charge. Maldives face several challenges with human resources and delivery of nephrology care and hopes to set up a kidney transplant program this year.
