What is it about?
This review compares and contrasts the different serological assays that are used for evaluating the immunogenicity of influenza vaccines. It covers the regulator-approved assays HI and SRH all the way through to neuraminidase assays and influenza pseudotype neutralization assays.

Why is it important?
This review article highlights the growing importance of using influenza pseudotypes for vaccine immunogenicity studies. Pseudotypes are attractive for this as they efficiently measure both anti-head and anti-stalk HA responses, are amenable to high-throughput platforms and may be easier to standardise than HI as do not rely on erythrocytes.
