How does farm diversification affect productivity and efficiency of organic farms

What is it about?

The paper analyses farm data from organic grassland farms in Switzerland, Austria and southern Germany with respect to their diversification activities. We can show, that diversification contributes to farm productivity and to income stability, that however technical efficiency is reduced.

Why is it important?

It is the first formal analysis showing the interaction of farm activities and diversification activities, which go beyond the typical production program (i.e. rural tourism, direct marketing, forestry, agri-environmental farming).
