Why is it important?

COVID 19 vaccination procedures are based on priorities protocol. Although there is nothing wrong in this procedure, the fact tells us that the rate of vaccinations globally is slow and uneven. Due to unfounded fears, governments resulted to some ploys to prod people to get vaccinated. However, the use of close social connections, family , friends and others were forgotten or not being utilized in the vaccination program. This is very important action to take because people first considered safety of family in their decision of getting vaccinated.

Perspectives

Social capital theory is used here to explain people's decisions of getting vaccinated. Social capital theory argued that people or communities would use their social connections or contacts for the attainment of common goals and objectives. Having three levels -- bonding social capital, bridging social capital, and linking social -- these levels performed their tasks in the delivery of goods or services for the benefit of communities. The theory has been used in many development endeavors such as health, mitigation studies on the impact of climate change, community development, and many others. All these studies showed that to sustain the benefits of development, people's aspirations, norms, goals, and values need to be incorporated in the design of programs for community development.
