What is it about?
The hydroethanolic bark extract has a high polyphenol content, and the loliolide was discovered for the first time in this species. No toxic effects of the extract were found in in vitro cytotoxicity tests, mutagenicity tests, and no oral toxicity. These findings suggest that EBHE has potential as a source of bioactive molecules, and it can be used safely in traditional medicine and in the development of herbal medicines for application in the public health system.

Additionally, there were no adverse effects of oxidative stress, cholesterol, triglycerides, glycemia, or liver and kidney function biochemical markers. Mild hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effects were evidenced with repeated oral doses.
