Fibrosis in the ocular surface is a devastating condition without satisfactory therapy. This can contribute to blindness. Here we show the effect of a naturally occurring polysaccharide on wound healing.

Why is it important?
Treatment of ocular surface fibrotic conditions can reduce blindness and ocular morbidity.
Perspectives
Fibrosis in the ocular surface can occur after surgeries such as trabeculectomy for glaucoma, and after laser refractive procedures such as photorefractive keratectomy. Fibrosis results in poor surgical outcomes and even failure of the surgery.
