What is it about?
This is a review from an international group convened by the Tourette Association of America to give guidance to clinicians on diagnosis and management of patients with functional tic-like symptoms. We summarize in a long table previous reports on this subject (of varying size and quality), and provide practical consensus recommendations.

Why is it important?
Abrupt-onset (hours to days), complex and often dramatic tic-like symptoms were unusual before 2020, but became much more common beginning about then. Patients with such symptoms are often substantially impaired by them, but show many differences from Tourette syndrome (TS). Experts generally believe that optimal treatment of such symptoms is quite different than for TS.
