What is it about?

Any physical process can be described by partial differential equations. To resolve a problem like crack desiccation in clayey soils, the partial differential equations that describe it must be solved by a numerical method. This paper presents five methods to resolve this complex and important problem.

The process of desiccation and cracking in clayey soils has important applications in civil engineering. It is a classical problem because of its complexity, so, it is yet an open field of research.
