What is it about?
Acidithiobacillus species are pivotal players for biofilm formation in acidophile environments. We are focused on the characterization of molecular mechanisms involved in biofilm formation by Acidithiobacillus during the colonization of ores.

Why is it important?
In this work we have characterized a functional c-di-GMP pathway in Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans and by developping a PelD- null-mutant strain we have demonstrated that PEL exopolysaccharide is part of the molecular network for biofilm production.
