What is it about?

In granites, greisens are formed when feldspars are replaced by quartz and muscovite in a proportion of six parts quartz to one part muscovite. In Beauvoir greisen, however, there is more muscovite, due to a different reaction that adds potassium and aluminium. A diagram is proposed to compare the transformations of different greisens in Europe.

Why is it important?

This diagram allows to discriminate processes where aluminium is transported and added to the granite through the formation muscovite instead of quartz. This is indicative of acidic fluorine rich fluids.

Perspectives

Some greisens are characterized by gains in chemical elements of interest and other muscovitisation processes on the contrary yield to lithium or rubidium release due to the dissolution of magmatic lepidolite. This is the case of Beauvoir muscovitisation process. This work has been carried out together with a young researcher who contributed significantly to quantitative mineralogy.
