What is it about?

This research report looks at how the lack of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) affects the visibility of scientific publications from developing countries. DOIs are unique codes that make it easier to find and cite academic papers. Our study finds that many papers from these regions are not reaching a global audience because they lack DOIs. This highlights a need for new publishing methods to ensure these important works are recognized worldwide.

Why is it important?

This work is timely because it addresses a significant gap in the global scientific landscape. By showing how the absence of DOIs limits the visibility of research from developing countries, it calls for more attention to this issue within scholarly communication. It emphasizes the need for alternative publishing models and encourages librarians, publishers, and researchers to consider the role of DOIs in increasing global access to all scientific contributions.

Perspectives

From a personal perspective, this publication underscores a critical issue that often goes unnoticed. As a researcher, I've observed firsthand how the lack of DOIs can marginalize valuable research from regions that already face numerous challenges. This study is a call to action for the academic community to rethink how we handle and promote scientific information, ensuring that all research, regardless of its origin, has the opportunity to contribute to the global scientific discourse.
