What is it about?

Results show that attachment style in pregnancy relates to parenting stress 1 year after birth. The mothers' attachment style seems to mediate the association between their adverse childhood experiences and subsequent postnatal stress. Parenting stress also relates to perceived infant temperament.

The study illustrates the importance of understanding the multifactorial antecedents of parenting stress even in a community sample such as the present one.

Perspectives

In my view the issue of parenting stress in caregiving behavior, and how such stress may affect children’s development, calls for attention in child development research.
