What is it about?

The paper is about a new biotechnological approach to improve potato crop which can be applied to other plant species as well

Why is it important?

We find that combining DNA deficiency (MMR system deficiency) in one fusion species (the wild species) with somatic hybridization can contribute to new mutator phenotype, SSR instability and new resistance traits in selected somatic hybrids potato + S. chacoense.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long standing collaborations. This article also lead to new results and insights on MMR and somatic fusion with possible biotechnological applications in potato improvement.
