What is it about?
Water, a simple molecule, can dramatically change the behavior of special liquids called deep eutectic solvents (DES). These solvents are considered "green" alternatives to traditional chemicals. Our research used advanced techniques to examine how water interacts with different types of DES. We discovered that water molecules have a preference for binding to a specific part of the DES. However, the way water affects the DES depends on the exact composition of the solvent.

Why is it important?
Our findings offer crucial insights into the workings of these environmentally friendly solvents. This knowledge lays the groundwork for groundbreaking advancements in sustainable chemistry and pharmaceutical science, particularly in enhancing the solubility and bioavailability of poorly water-soluble drugs.
