What is it about?
Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is an important etiological agent of acute respiratory infections in humans. In this study, 1308 clinical specimens were analyzed and new variant HMPV strains with 180-nucleotide duplication in the G gene were detected. The HMPV strains likely gained an advantage that allowed their efficient spread in the community. The effects on HMPV virulence must be clarified.
