What is it about?
This review will explore what is currently known about women who experience both intimate partner violence (IPV) and unintended pregnancies (UP). Unintended pregnancies are those that are unplanned, unwanted, or mistimed, and pose additional risks for women who face IPV. Despite the seriousness of this issue, little is known about the experiences, challenges, and healthcare needs of these women and the resources available to them. This study will look at research published since 2000, focusing on women of reproductive age who have experienced IPV and UP. It includes studies that detail their circumstances, needs, and available support systems. The research process involved screening over 1,500 relevant studies, with two researchers independently selecting and analyzing the data. The findings from quantitative studies will be summarized, while qualitative studies will be explored for key themes. This review aims to uncover gaps in the current knowledge and provide valuable insights into the health and well-being of this vulnerable group. These findings will help researchers, healthcare providers, and policymakers design better support systems and healthcare solutions for women affected by IPV and unintended pregnancies.
