What is it about?
This article is about a sound recording where the underwater sounds of the river Shannon in Ireland were recorded and then played for an audience. It reflects on the process of recording the sounds and how sound might enable the sound artist to think about their own relationship with the environment.

Why is it important?
It is important because sometimes academics working on environmental issues can feel overwhelmed by the scale of the issues. By working with our own skills, we can contribute work that is not only academic, but creative. This might help communicate environmental issues in different ways.
