Why is it important?

By adding insights from literary genre theory, semantic systems theory gains clarity and is likely to appeal to a broader range of scholars working in diverse fields. Semantic systems theory productively engages complex concepts and the relations and behaviours flowing from and through these. It stands at the heart of what we understand as social construction. Semantic systems (concepts like university, hospital, for example) might be engaged with in terms that enable transformation and clearer insights into how we build our social world through meaning-making.

Perspectives

Fröhlich's semantic systems theory provides a means of understanding complex systems like language and other socially constructed semantic systems.
