What is it about?

Introducing the need to focus on basic needs of individuals experiencing homelessness, and to understand how the daily routines of "living" are essentially the work. Health services need to accommodate and adapt their services for the specific needs of those experiencing homelessness and unstably housed.

Why is it important?

Understanding the needs and contexts of those experiencing homelessness is critical for all health service sectors. Those who work primarily with this population benefit from learning about other programs and initiatives to improve care. Other health care providers need to understand the unique needs of this population in order to provide the most effective care.

Perspectives

This piece introduces the special issue of the WORK journal which focuses on the needs of those experiencing homelessness. This opens the perspectives of different programs and interventions to improve health management and quality of life for those who are experiencing homelessness and housing instability.
