The article examines the cogency of the approach and methodology of social impact assessment studies to ascertain the extent of compliance with the substantive and procedural requirements of law with respect to impact identification, public consultation and web reporting.

Why is it important?
Having come into effect from January 1, 2014, there is a pressing need to build scholarship around the operational aspects of The RFCTLARR Act, 2013 for the benefit of policy framers, regulators, researchers, academicians, practitioners and civil society. The study identifies capacity deficit of SIA agencies and bureaucratic inertia as major challenges to the effective implementation of the law.
