What is it about?

Many people with vision impairments have removed themselves from the labor force. This paper examines the decisions of 30 individuals with vision impairments to explain why they are not working or looking for work.

Why is it important?

Our findings show that the main factor that causes people with vision impairments to remove themselves from the workforce are additional disabilities and chronic health issues. To consider returning to the labor force, these participants mentioned needing additional accommodations, flexible schedules, or part-time or remote employment.
