What is it about?

We looked at the medications used by a group of research participants in the Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative study to see what medications were for different non-motor symptoms and how often the drugs appeared in medication records.

Why is it important?

There are only a few drugs specifically approved for Parkinson's disease non-motor symptoms. We were interested in characterizing what people were taking to gain a better understanding.

Perspectives

Many assessments used for non-motor symptom prevalence or severity do not take medication use into consideration, and, in general, medication data are notoriously difficult to work with. I hope we can re-evaluate how we collect, analyze, and utilize medication data from clinical studies.
