What is it about?

SRS and SRT are precise treatments for brain metastases, delivering high doses while minimizing doses to nearby organs. Modern linear accelerators enable the precise delivery of SRS/SRT using different modalities like three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT), intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), and Rapid Arc (RA). This paper aimed to compare dosimetric differences and evaluate the effectiveness of 3DCRT, IMRT, and Rapid Arc techniques in SRS/SRT for brain metastases.

Why is it important?

Our study sought to evaluate effective treatment techniques for brain metastases using Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) or Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SRT). Our objective was to contribute to the existing literature by investigating treatment outcomes with three specific techniques: 3D-CRT, IMRT, and RA. This comparative analysis enhances the overall evidence and understanding of the advantages and limitations of these treatment modalities by determining the optimal treatment strategy based on observed dosimetric differences and overall effectiveness.

Perspectives

The findings from this comparative analysis can help guide the selection of the most appropriate SRS/SRT approach, balancing factors like target coverage, organ sparing, and overall plan quality. As radiation therapy techniques continue to evolve, this type of evaluation will be crucial for leveraging advanced technologies to improve outcomes for patients with brain metastases.
