What is it about?
WH Perkins method of mauveine synthesis patented in 1856 gives mauveine rich in mauveine A, B2, B and C but his museum stored mauveine is rich in only mauveine A and B! We developed a way to make the museum stored mauveine which raises the question as to wether this is Perkins original, uncovered method.

Why is it important?
This is historical chemistry understanding methods of the past which were not fully understood at the time. All knowledge can have a value as well as being interesting. The Victorians were also excellent scientists and engineers.
