What is it about?
Near infrared light have the potential of protect dying key neurons in Parkinson disease models. We have show here that intracranial application via optic fibers of the light can considerable ameliorate symptoms of PD and increase cell survival. This open the door to a new class of therapeutic intervention in PD.

Why is it important?
We have showed before the effect of near infrared light in PD degenerative neurons. This paper showed the importance of introducing the light source near the target area for better results. Using implants specially designed to carry the the light also prefigure the future clinical implants
