What is it about?

This paper introduces a new and simple technique to treat temporal epilepsy patients with hippocampal sclerosis. With a selective approach trough superior sulcus, the hippocampus is isolated from surrounding brain to interrupt epileptic circuits. The removal is not necessary to achieve a good epilepsy outcome.

Why is it important?

With this technique, the surgery is faster and with less vascular risks.

Perspectives

I'm using this technique since many years now and with similar results from classic ones. I use it always when the involvement of surrounding temporal lobe is not an issue. I don't use this technique for tumors or when a displasia is suspected either from MRI or clinical/EEG findings.
