What is it about?
This paper focuses on floods as the country’s most common karst geohazard. In particular, detailed analyses were done on flood dynamics in karst poljes. Moreover, the interrelationship of flooding on two typical and connected karst poljes in the Classical Karst was studied. An exceptional hydrological event was studied with the aim of increasing our understanding of the conditions driving this phenomenon. Suggestions for coping with and mitigating flooding in karst regions are presented.

Why is it important?
This study aimed at understanding the dynamics of flooding in karst landscapes. It is a first approach that should be further complemented, particularly with modeling aimed at predicting flood events. It has, above all, demonstrated that the main obstacle for this task is a lack of data. At least in the studied area, the groundwater monitoring network should be expanded, since consistent data in particular is crucial for the construction of complete and reliable models.
