What is it about?
There is a lot of talk about academic teachers being worried about students using and misusing generative AI in their essays, but it often forgotten that this is problem also exists for journal editors (and reviewers) who worry about authors of submitted manuscripts having misused AI to produce their writing.

Why is it important?
The development of Generative AI has been phenomenal in the past few years. Studies suggest the overwhelming majority of UK students (and those elsewhere) now use some AI in producing their work. This will spill over into the writing of journal articles and therefore becomes an issue for journal editors and editorial boards to consider, regulate (or at least offer advice upon) and policy (if detection is possible)
Perspectives
The possibilities of what students and academics can do with AI in their research and writing about their research means we can't afford to ignore this as a social issue.
