What is it about?

This article is about the contemporary political situation of the Metropolitan City of ‘Bengaluru’ (a rechristened form of Bangalore), its custodian the BBMP (Bengaluru City Corporation) and its elections. The response to the fluid situation that emerged post-elections by various political parties has to be cleft at different levels. It has once again been demonstrated that "politics makes strange bedfellows" and "there are no enemies in politics" proving them as evergreen adages. The reality that power negotiators can concoct bizarre combinations to be acceptable to power was also demonstrated. During the process, ethics and values-based politics were at their lowest ebb. Politicians don’t want to be off from the adumbration as acknowledged by Niccolò Machiavelli was re-enacted. Already nauseated by the issue of corruption, these antics are sure to alienate commoners once again away from civic society movements related to BBMP. Due to the nature of power-sharing, the alliance is certain to condescend to corruption rather than reduce it, which is pervasive in the BBMP. Bengaluru residents' relief appears to be a fantasy. The nature of power-sharing accords politicians to benefit greatly while the general public receives little relief from their everyday struggles with issues connected to Bengaluru. Bengaluru residents' relief appears to be a fantasy. While commoners continue to struggle with issues related to Bengaluru on a daily basis, politicians continue to benefit greatly.

Why is it important?

The research is necessitated as the fluid situation pertaining to citizen amenities in Bengaluru is not the priority of any political party. Caste Politics has an alluring history in the state. Relying on Caste to capture power is executed very meticulously. The fight between Lingayats and Vokkaligas (one other dominant caste of the state) to gain power in Karnataka goes back to the date of Unification.

Perspectives

In a huge democratic country like India, national political parties take an active role in Civic elections. But this is a fringy subject of interest for political scientists in a divided society. In a country like India whea re majoritarian electoral system is followed, much attention is paid towards national and state elections and their outcome. Hence an attempt has been made here to analyse a Civic election.
